WINEMAKING
130 years of family winemaking
To have achieved global recognition for our wines, especially four times as “Best Australian Wine Producer” at the International Wine Challenge in Vienna in 2015/2016/2017/2020 and 2022 signifies that we are getting it right from the vineyard to the winery here at Pirramimma.
The early wines were of the ‘big, rich Burgundian style’ from the first plantings of Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Today the old and the new winemaking worlds work seamlessly together to deliver crisp, elegant white wines from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, to savoury and bolder reds from Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet.
Pirramimma is also truly unique with pioneering plantings of Petit Verdot and Tannat, deliberately chosen as late ripening varietals that can withstand the challenges of a warming climate. Our fortified cellars are also some of the most prevalent in the southern hemisphere.
Embracing our history, our wine presses date back to 1932 and are still used each and every vintage, as are the original concrete vats.
